Any of these photos look familiar?
It’s time to start enjoying your boat. Set aside some time to repair, restore or redo some of the canvas or hardware so when you set sail, it will be comfortable and worry-free.
Take stock of your boat with these TOP 10 suggestions:
Assess all of your hardware. Corrosion, harsh conditions, or age can damage or ruin fasteners. In most cases, we can easily replace snaps, common sense fasteners or various hardware so your canvas stays in place.
Get Floored!

Moldy, cold, slippery, damp, scratched, faded, dirty, or ugly….
Any of these describe your cockpit deck or your cabin sole?
Boats are certainly designed to be used in harsh conditions and take on the burden of salt, sand and water, but floors don’t always hold up. Wooden floors will split and crack and carpets can harbor entire ecosystems.
We like Infinity Luxury Woven Vinyl, a cushion-backed, heavy duty flexible flooring. This is a great product to add to your flybridge, cockpit, cabin sole, stateroom, head and even home or business.
‘Fairweather’ Friends

When two passionate, innovative companies recently teamed up for a residential project in the hills of Sonoma, the results were beautiful. Since 1989, Fairweather and Associates (http://fairweather-assoc.com) has been designing and building new, modern, green homes in Sonoma County. Because their team manages projects from beginning to end, they have the authority to call on outside experts for help. Enter, The Canvas Works.
Fairweather presented our team with a design idea for a custom shade screen attached to a new, modern home.

Reinventing the SAIL
28/10/2016
Carey, a Marin local, came to us to discuss the need to shade her home’s main living space with great southern exposure. She wanted a sense of privacy and yet have enough light transparency not to darken the space. Marin, being surrounded by water, calls out for a design that incorporates the local seafaring history that helped to build the Bay Area.
Carey brought the concept of utilizing a used sail and marine hardware to our team, to design and fabricate nautical curtains.

De-mist-tify Your Boat Windows
22/07/2016
Powerboats and sailboats, as well as residential and commercial enclosures, often use clear plastics as windows. It can be tough to decide which is the best product for your application. We hope to clarify the options for you with this short summery.
There are basically 4 options when selecting materials for windows:
Rolled vinyl is a very flexible, inexpensive material with inherent distortion. It comes in a variety of thicknesses and is a good option for the budget conscience.
Shade sails into local school!

The Canvas Works invents retractable shade sail.
Everyone knows the basic rules of sun exposure. Wear your sunscreen, put on a hat, or just stay out of the sun. Kids are some of the most vulnerable to the sun’s rays, and it’s often tough for children to follow these rules while at school. One thing that will hopefully never change is that kids play outside during the school day. What should change is their access to shady areas in a climate that is increasingly heating up.
A Positive Diversion
07/05/2015
We at The Canvas Works are fortunate to work with great customers like David Henson and Maureen Robinson aboard their 48 foot Offshore Powerboat, “Diversion”. After a solid two weeks of effort at our dock, we were able to fabricate 16 enclosure panels, 9 covers, 5 screens, 1 cushion and 1 large bimini.
We had a few questions for David and Maureen that we thought we should share with you.
TCW: Give us a bit of history and specs on the boat?
The Discovery of the Mission Blue
07/05/2015
As a beautiful memorial for a young girl, we were commissioned by The Discovery Museum to fabricate a shade sail protecting a scenic lookout at Presidio Point, Sausalito. The Mission Blue Butterfly symbolizes the precious and fragile life we live. Endangered and nearly extinct, the Mission Blue inhabits a special Bay Area location adjacent the Golden Gate Bridge and Marin headlands. Visit Lucy’s Lookout next time your at the museum you too will see the Mission Blue.
