When two passionate, innovative companies recently teamed up for a residential project in the hills of Sonoma, the results were beautiful. Since 1989, Fairweather and Associates (http://fairweather-assoc.com) has been designing and building new, modern, green homes in Sonoma County. Because their team manages projects from beginning to end, they have the authority to call on outside experts for help. Enter, The Canvas Works.
Fairweather presented our team with a design idea for a custom shade screen attached to a new, modern home. Taking on this screen project meant tackling challenges related to fabric choice, installation and functionality. We had to keep in mind the high aesthetic standards of both companies as well as the homeowner.
Here is what we did.
After a few iterations in material choice, we settled on Soltis 88, a Serge Ferrari product direct from Switzerland. Fairweather provided detailed drawings with tolerances plus or minus ¼ inch over a 15 foot panel. Their knowledgeable team strategically positioned the panel locations and fabricated structural posts in steel. Our panels required reinforced hems and the use of “D” rings for tensioning and attachment. Care was taken to maintain accurate overall lengths and widths for the pre-built structure. The finished product was a stunning, modern screen that provides shade to the homeowners.
Both Fairweather and The Canvas Works are rooted in ‘an appreciation of craftsmanship.’ Working with a company that also appreciates high quality, makes our job easier and more enjoyable. We can’t wait to team up again. Check out the full write up in Dwell Magazine
