Eating establishments of all shapes and sizes are adjusting to operations and service under Covid restrictions and social distancing. Given the current mandates on customer numbers and indoor seating, establishments are looking for creative ways to use outdoor spaces to increase seating capacity and provide protection for customers.
The Canvas Works has worked with many Bay Area restaurants to create custom panels on outdoor structures. Whether permanent or temporary, these enclosed spaces not only provide protection and extra space but they can add value to your business for many years.
We use top quality panel fabrics and window materials combined with expert craftsmanship to create an enclosure that will meet your needs. Because businesses have diverse spaces to work with, we have created several options for adapting, rolling, attaching and customizing the panels to ensure the best fit and functionality.
Examples
We recently completed two restaurant enclosures projects each with unique purposes and designs criteria.
Masala Kitchen wanted to enclose an outdoor dining area to allow for outdoor seating in less than ideal weather conditions. The restaurant wanted customers to be protected from wind and a noisy parking area but still enjoy an open feel.
The panels windows are constructed out of 30mil, high quality laminate vinyl and secured to existing structure with convenient twist lock fasteners which allow workers to quickly detach/secure panels. Each panel operates individually and can be manually rolled up providing flexibility in terms of amount of enclosed space.
Masala isn’t on a pulley system. They are in place with track and common sense fasteners. They can roll up.
The second restaurant customer, Kamikaze Sushi Bar and Cuisine presented us with a slightly different enclosure project. They wanted their outdoor seating area fully enclosed from top to bottom allowing for a more defined personal dining space. This type of paneled enclosure blocked customers completely from the parking lot noises and foot traffic.
The panels were designed to operate using a pulley system with lines running the vertical length of the panel with a weighted tube in the bottom hem.. This system allows the owners to open up as little as one or all 4 panels depending on the weather and capacity of outdoor seating. Padeyes installed in the cement floor secure the panels to keep from moving or blowing in the wind. The panel design has maximized windows to allow as much natural light as possible and still provide a view outward while dining.
After creating a meticulous plan and well thought out design, both enclosure projects are attractive and highly functional. They each had existing structures, however, many establishments are creating their own structures in order to extend their seating capacity.. We can design to accommodate any space and we are happy to consult to ensure the panels or enclosure will function for your needs and last a long time.
